Entertaiment is any activity that can be consumed and which provides pleasure to the consumer. The term has become more associated with amusement, although many entertainments have a more serious purpose (such as ceremony, ritual, religious festival or satire).
Entertaiment can be found in all media and at any scale: from an individual selecting a personal private entertainment from a now enormous array of pre-recorded products; to a banquet adapted for two; to a performance intended for thousands. It has also proven very flexible, with familiar forms demonstrating a remarkable capacity to cross over different media and to be remixed by consumers.
