Entertaiment is a form of leisure activity that is based around the production of laughs or other forms of enjoyment. In modern times this has often been associated with recreational activities and can include anything from a clown at a party to the staging of a fetish rite, non secular pageant or satire. Some entertainments may also have a more serious purpose, and hit on themes the brain was shaped to react deeply to, such as social backstabbing or murder.
The word derives from the medieval Latin intertenere, meaning “hold inside.” Then we grew to think of it as keeping guests happy and entertained.
