Entertaiment is a form of entertainment, usually fun and light-hearted in nature. However, it can also be serious and serve a social purpose as in the case of ceremonies, religious festivals, or satire for instance. It can be individualized to fit an individual’s taste and needs, and may take on various forms such as a meal for two in a restaurant, to performances adapted for thousands and even global audiences. The word derives from the Latin intertenere, combining the prefix “inside” with the suffix tenere, meaning to hold inside. Its meaning has also been influenced by many cultures, especially those of the Far East.
