Entertaiment

Entertaiment

Entertaiment is a broad term that encompasses the whole range of human cultural activities. Adaptable to any scale, entertainment can be found in the form of private enjoyment (choosing among a wide variety of pre-recorded media), at a banquet adapted for two, or at performances intended for thousands or even global audiences. Its evolution has demonstrated a seemingly infinite potential for creative remix. (See TEN in Transformational Entertainment News.)

The word entertainment comes from the Medieval Latin intertenere, or “to hold inside.” See also amusement, entertainment, and play. This article originally appeared in the Fall 2011 issue of T E News.
